Alexandria, Va. – April 26, 2023 – The Learning First Alliance (LFA), a partnership of national education groups representing more than 10 million parents, educators, and policymakers, is designating May 1 – June 16 Graduation and Grade Promotion Season (#WeAre2023) to celebrate the millions of students who are graduating or moving to the next stage of their academic careers this spring.

“Graduation and grade promotions are more than just ceremonies,” said Richard Long, executive director of the Learning First Alliance. “Whether they are graduating from pre-kindergarten to elementary school, or high school to career, college, trade school, or the military, kids are taking part in experiences that reflect their outstanding perseverance and resilience. This spring, we are thrilled to celebrate these students’ achievements and the incredible importance of education to our communities, our nation, and our society.”

The #WeAre2023 graduation and grade promotion celebration is part of the larger #HerefortheKids campaign, which brings together families, educators, and community members to shine a light on local public schools and the positive things happening in classrooms and schools nationwide.

As part of this effort, LFA will host a free webinar on Tuesday, May 2, starting at 2 p.m. ET. The event will highlight stories of how public schools have helped prepare kids for the next steps in their future. The webinar will also be live-streamed on YouTube and Twitter @LearningFirst.

There will also be a Twitter chat on Thursday, May 4, starting at 8 p.m. ET. Participants will be able to connect with school leaders, parents, and students and give voice to the power of education and the impact of graduation on kids’ future success. Attendees can join by using the hashtag #WeAre2023.

Students, families, and educators can also download a photo frame, snap a selfie, or create a post showing highlights from their school year or from their graduation for their Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram pages. They are encouraged to tag @LearningFirst when they do.

Throughout this graduation and grade promotion season, LFA is sharing information, success stories and more at learningfirst.org/graduationgradepromotion and on social media using #WeAre2023.
