Kohlmoos’ experience advocating for evidence-based decision making will greatly benefit the Alliance’s work in strengthening public education
Washington, D.C. – March 12, 2012 – The Learning First Alliance (LFA), a partnership of 16 leading education associations with more than 10 million members dedicated to improving student learning in America's public schools, welcomes Jim Kohlmoos to its Board of Directors. Kohlmoos recently became executive director of the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE).
Prior to joining NASBE, Kohlmoos had served as president and CEO of the Knowledge Alliance since 2001. Kohlmoos has also worked as a vice president at The Implementation Group, where he built a bipartisan government relations practice in elementary and secondary education. From 1993-2000, he served the U.S. Department of Education as a deputy assistant secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education, senior advisor and special assistant.
Kohlmoos held various roles at the Close Up Foundation from 1977–1993, including positions as an instructor, director and vice president. He began his career in education in 1971 with the U.S. Teacher Corps in Salinas, California, and subsequently served as a teacher trainer with the Peace Corps in Malaysia for 3 years.
