NEA Safe Schools Now Network and the Learning First Alliance: A Bold Initiative, A Unique Partnership
Working Together for Safe Schools & Communities
FOR YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY
A Free Satellite Dish and Free Programming
Every school and community is striving to address concerns about school safety. Now schools and school districts will be able to get high-quality school safety information and strategies - FREE.
A partnership of the National Education Association (NEA), the Learning First Alliance, and EchoStar Communications Corporation makes it possible. Beginning in January 2000, the NEA will broadcast ten video programs, each with its own electronic discussion guide. EchoStar will donate 1,000 digital satellite dishes to schools and districts - as well as the airtime to bring the broadcast programs to them. (A minimal dish installation fee may apply.)
The NEA-EchoStar Safe Schools Network will be a valuable resource - for teachers, administrators, parents, law enforcement personnel, mental health professionals, school counselors, and other community members who interface with young people - covering such topics as:
- Identifying early warning signs
- Gangs, sub-cultures, and cliques: myths and realities
- Valuing differences and respecting diversity
- Taking common-sense security precautions
- Anger management, peer mediation, and conflict resolution
We owe our students safe environments in which to learn. And teachers, administrators, and other school personnel deserve safe places to work and teach. Now your school district can add a new tool to enhance your existing efforts. Your community can benefit from the best research, strategies, and information. But first you need to apply for the satellite dish!!
